VisaMap Gives You A Visual Idea Of Where You Might Need A Tourist Visa

by Anil Polat · 10 comments

Aside from searching for low airfare, visas can often be a confusing and time consuming part of planning an international trip. The interactive site VisaMap highlights the places your nationality doesn’t require a visa, visas on arrival, and places you’ll need to apply for in advance.

VisaMap lets you choose you nationality and covers just about most of them from around the world. You’ll be able to get a quick glance at where you can and can’t travel easily – as well as an idea of which countries might be more difficult than usual to get a visa for.

The Start, Not The End

Just exactly where VisaMap pulls its data from isn’t clear and visa requirements can change rather quickly, so always follow up with the appropriate embassy if you have any doubts. Fortunately VisaMap, which is free to use, also has a good Google Maps mash-up of embassies around the world based on the citizenship you set.

Hi Anil,
This is a neat tool for an overview or to begin with. But as you said, better check with the embassy! I did a quick check for visa requirements for Indians to Mexico, Canadians to UAE, Japanese to India and all were incorrect or partially correct. Additionally, having a Canadian resident card waives off visa requirements for several countries – info like this can be found on embassy websites alone. 🙂

Hi Priyank,

That’s how I felt about it too – it’s a good start on a great premise. Wish there were some good central database (that was updated) to pull this information from. I’m tempted to code something up myself…it’s finding the data and keeping up with it that’s a bugger.

Hey this is a great site! Just checked a few countries and it seems like they were correct for Australians – but as always, I’ll triple check!

I look at all the green countries as those to put on the spontaneous or no-plan list 😉

Hello. I’m author of this site.

Thank you for review. I can be sure only about Russian/Ukrainian rules. Other rules can contain a mistakes, so if you found some mistakes and correct them – it will be really cool.

You can update any data at this site by clicking “Correct” button.

You can update visa rules or embassies. Also you can add missing embassy.

I’d be curious to hear how accurate it is with the Filipino passport.
