[...] Much like Windows of Mac OS X, Linux requires its own software. You’ll need to find Linux versions of the most popular Windows titles (if they exist) and Mac users should be able to find many more compatible programs. (Mac OS X and Linux are both built upon UNIX and this commonality allows for more software crossover.) Windows users may find it difficult to find all of their programs in a Linux version but can replace some of Microsoft’s biggest sellers with free alternative software. [...]

Although I've got a Mac I have Ubuntu and a few other Linux flavors on standby in a few virtual machines. When I was on a PC I was running solely Ubuntu for a while and was very happy with it.

As for MS Office, I too have trouble switching from it - Microsoft has ingrained it in my brain. I didn't even like it when they updated the look and feel for 2008.

I still prefer SSuite Office. It’s nice and small and runs very fast on any system. It also does not require Java or .NET to run on.

I've never thought about running a Linux flavor...hmm, you have me thinking. As for switching to OpenOffice - you're right, that would be an incredibly hard habit to break, in fact I can't imagine not having M. Office!
